Yichang Three Gorges Airport was officially opened to navigation on December 28, 1996. It is located at the junction of Xiaoting District, Yiling District, and Zhejiang City, Yichang City, Hubei Province, China. It is 55 kilometers away from the Three Gorges Dam. The project is the Three Gorges Regional International Hubei Airport.

The reconstruction and expansion of the flight area of the Three Gorges Airport include extending the existing runway from 2,600 meters to the south to 3,200 meters, extending the existing 400-meter partial taxiway to 3,200 meters, and constructing two new vertical ties at the end of the runway to connect the runway and parallel taxiways. , 2 new rapid exit taxiways, and a new 62,000-square-meter apron to achieve two-way blind landing. Among them, the 3200-meter runway has laid a solid foundation for the Three Gorges Airport to open up long-distance international routes and safeguard medium and large passenger and cargo aircraft. The commissioning of parallel taxiways will greatly reduce the waiting time of aircraft on the ground and improve flight operation efficiency. The expanded apron will also be further improved. It improves the security capability of the Three Gorges Airport and provides hardware support for the rich route network of the Three Gorges Airport.

The processing system, meteorological data lead, MICAPS system, GPS clock, etc. are protected to prevent damage to the equipment caused by lightning strikes, resulting in the failure of airport meteorological service equipment and facilities, resulting in hidden dangers of safety accidents and property losses. The design scheme adopts C-level surge protector M40B2, antenna feeder surge protector R25F70F, control signal surge protector D12Y2-A, etc., which enhances the lightning protection level of system equipment and increases safety for flight take-off and landing under special weather.
